Sky Ride Local in Birmingham

A ride around a changing area of Birmingham, passing by industry and around the former forest of Castle Vale. Best remembered as being an airfield and Spitfire factory, or for the 34 1970s tower blocks, now long gone from the redeveloped estate.

If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.

I completed a few rides last year as a sky ride leader . Every one was great and am looking forward to cycling again this year with sky , meeting new and familiar faces .

    Hope to see you soon.

  • David Wilkinson David Wilkinson I commute to/from work by cycle, in all traffic, in all weather. My cycle is a serious road traffic vehicle, not a toy, and cycling is a way of getting around quickly and at almost no cost.

SkyRides are different - a chance to get out with others, take it easy, chat, and encourage others to enjoy getting onto two (or one or three!) wheels in a safe, gentle environment.
  • Steven Holland Steven Holland I used to cycle a great deal as a young man but stopped in my early twenties. I got a fairly average Mountain bike when I was forty and have got back into cycling again. I like to ride on the local canal network in Birmingham for exercise. On a personal afternoon cycle I will travel 10 to 20 miles (mostly off road). On a full day out I may cycle 30 to 40 miles. I assited on several rides in Birmingham last year.
