Sky Ride Local in Bradford

This nine mile long route starts and finishes at Apperley Bridge in Shipley and follows the Leeds and Liverpool Canal west towards the World Heritage site of Saltaire, the model village and factory of philanthropic industrialist Titus Salt. En route, the ride passes Esholt, location of ITV's long running drama Emmerdale Farm. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the canal - narrowboats and waterfowl abound along this marvel of the Industrial Revolution. Once at Saltaire, you can rest and refuel in one of its many cafes before retracing your steps along the traffic-free towpath back to Apperley Bridge.

If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.

Rider Comments on the Route

  1. vicky Sanderson Monday 4th July
Would have been brilliant if it wasnt for the weather!!
  2. Matt Johnson Saturday 25th June
Good ride, shame about one of the leaders comments about my son not being able to cope at the start. Didn't ruin the afternoon though.
