Sky Ride Local in Birmingham

Not cycled for a while and looking for an easy way to get back in the saddle? Fancy a fun way to get your friends or kids riding? Our Easygoing rides are great for building confidence for all abilities and ages along relaxed, mostly traffic-free routes. They’re up to six miles long, with a gentle pace of around six miles an hour.

This three and a half mile ride follows 500 year-old hedged lanes into the beautiful Woodgate Valley Country Park. Set in 450 acres, it houses many different habitats. With a mixture of mature hedgerows, meadows, woodland, small ponds and the Bourn Brook running right through its heart, it offers a varied terrain and a rich landscape to explore. The hay meadows in summer are full of buttercups which create an amazing sight. Originally a mosaic of farms and smallholdings, the park has retained much of its rural character. You may even spot woodland birds such as woodpeckers and tree creepers along the way creating the perfect family ride out.

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Robert Maskell Robert Maskell Hello my name is Rob.
I have been cycling since my teens.
My main interest is cycle touring, I was a member of West Bromwich CTC for a number of years.
I really enjoyed the Sunday morning club runs and the weekends away youth hosteling.
Now my cycling consists of day rides to local beauty spots covering around 40 miles, and cycling off road exploring the tracks and trails of the Wyre Forest and Cannock Chase, and of course leading Sky rides.
I like to do all of the maintenance and repairs to my bikes myself.
I currently have two bikes, a GT that I use for off road and a Ridgeback that I use for road work.
Well I hope to see you out on a local Sky ride soon
  • Steve Smith Steve Smith Hi I have been cyclist since I was pretty much a baby from the child seat on back of my moms bike, on a tandem to my own bike. I grew up in a cycling family and have always found great pleasure in cycling from riding with a club to cycling holidays or just on my own. I ride these days on a MTB on the roads, canal towpaths and offroad.
  • Keith Worrall Keith Worrall Hi my name is Keith. I really enjoyed the sky ride programme last year and I am looking forward to the new season. Seeing the established riders and hoping to meet some new ones.I have been a ride leader for many years under various schemes. I know the Black country/Birmingham areas well. I look forward to seeing you on a ride soon.
