Overall Duration On a long ride, it’s sometimes good to have a little break in the middle, or maybe a catch up at the beginning or end to keep it sociable. This means that the overall ride duration may be longer than the actual cycling time.
7 hours 0 mins  (5 hours 30 mins cycling)
Bike Type You probably don’t want to drag your road bike across bumpy trails. Maybe you want to make the most of the suspension on your mountain bike. This helps you match your ride to your bike.

Breeze Bike Rides in South Gloucestershire

A women-only 100km ride, as part of the Bristol Cycle Festival - to celebrate all things women, cycling and long-distance.

NOTE: The start of this ride has moved to Trenchers Cafe, Aztec West, be there by 9.15am. (you may have seen publicity starting at Mud Dock but this has changed).

The route for this ride North of Bristol is available at the link below - in total this is slightly longer than 100 - about 105km. The first third to half is relatively flat with the second half more undulating, but there are no major climbs on this route. This is the ideal ride for any women wanting to tackle a longer ride in a supportive and fun group - first-timers to 100k or those who just fancy the challenge, all welcome:

We will be trying to avg a pace around 12mph so we are predicting 5.5 hour ride time plus stops for tea and cake (but we won't be leaving anyone behind). You need to be able to cycle a long distance before you do this ride, eg 40 miles but not necessarily have done the full distance before. We will have two scheduled refreshment stops - one at 40km and one at about 80km.

There will be free parking available for those taking part at Aztec West - details will be emailed to all participants in advance. If you are wanting to cycle from the centre of Bristol, an approximate additional distance of 10km we are probably going to arrange an additional meeting point - we will email information about this too.

Please arrive 15 mins before start time for briefing and bike checks. Helmets should be worn, bring spare inner tube and suitable amount of refreshment and snacks for a long ride - we recommend a minimum of 3 or 4 muesli bars and if you can carry two bottles of water/ other liquid on your bike this would be helpful. We cannot at this point predict the weather - please dress appropriately with thought to sunscreen and/or waterproofs depending on the forecast.

If you have any questions please go to Breeze Network Bristol on Facebook.

Meet the Champions

  • Nicola Waterworth Nicola Waterworth I am a ride leader and Breeze Champion leading rides that are mainly women-only in Bristol. I organise rides that range from 5 miles to 60, at a range of paces and levels. I am also a trained Level 2 Cycling Coach so can offer advice and tips on improving your cycling.

I enjoy meeting all the women who come on the Breeze rides, talking to them about cycling and helping them find buddies, cycling groups and rides that suit them. I am also a big fan of stopping for a good cuppa and occasional piece of cake!

For myself, I enjoy long solo rides, the sense of achievement a good hill climb brings, exploring new place by bike, summer evening rides with friends or my dad in the Dales and attempting very novice and not terribly good cyclo-cross.
  • Tracey Williams Tracey Williams A few years ago a friend said to me – fancy doing a triathlon? I nearly drowned in the sea at Bude and couldn't believe how scared I was getting on a road bike for the first time. However, with encouragement, I found that the more that I did, the more I enjoyed it, with the help of local clubs and enthusiastic friends. After building up my confidence slowly, I'm now addicted! I live in LA (Long Ashton, not the other one) and as far as I am aware, I don’t think that there is a cycling group/club/initiative to help women get on their bikes here. Having recently qualified as a Breeze champion I'm hoping to persuade as many women as I can to give it a go, get fitter in the process and have some fun connecting with local women riders!
