Sky Ride Local in Sheffield

If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.
A satisfying, scenic ride through contrasting terrain, rich in local history and with many lovely views.  This ride begins close to the southern boundary of Sheffield and dips in to Rotherham and North East Derbyshire before returning to South Yorkshire. Three boroughs in one day! Come along to explore the beautifully regenerated former colliery areas, now with trees, lakes and many recreation facilities.
Ride along the disused railway and enjoy a series of surprises as the elevated trail opens up to reveal views of the local countryside.   Stop to take photos or to play on the swings!  Have an ice cream or a hot drink at one of the two cafes along the way.  Pedal hard on the traffic-free Trans Pennine Trail if you want to stretch your legs or roll along socially, meeting new friends and chatting as you go.  Apart from some gentle undulations the route is flat and smooth.
This ride is a little gem and is guaranteed to put a smile on your face!

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Ruth Sutherland Ruth Sutherland Welcome to Sky Ride - I am looking forward to meeting and riding with lots of new people this summer. If you are thinking of signing up for your first Sky Ride and wondering what it will be like, I urge you to come along. Feeling safe and relaxed as well as having fun is included in the guarantee!

I help in my local bike club as a British Cycling
coach, working with adults and children to develop their cycling skills.

I also spend lots of time riding a bike for fun. Some days I ride a road bike and other days I ride a mountain bike. I have been lucky enough to travel the world riding roads and trails from as far north as Canada to as far south as New Zealand. I have discovered that some of the best cycling in the world is here on our doorsteps in the UK.

I am passionate about encouraging others to share my enjoyment of cycling and if you sign up to ride with me this summer I will very much look forward to meeting you.
  • Jim Sutherland Jim Sutherland I love riding all sorts of bikes but I particularly enjoy introducing others to this great sport and encouraging those who already ride to try new challenges. Riding is good exercise but its also great fun and a good way of seeing new places and meeting new people so I hope to see you on a ride soon!
