Boost your riding skills
Published 15 April 2013
Whether you fancy learning to ride for the first time, need to brush up your technique, or are looking to improve your skills on the road, then Breeze can help.
We understand that lack of confidence on a bike is one of the main things that put women off cycling more often, so we want to make sure more people have the opportunity to learn to ride at your own pace. There are loads of brilliant qualified cycle training instructors ready to help – including some of our own fabulous Breeze champions.
Level 1
This course is for beginners, and will introduce you to fundamental cycling skills. We'll cover basic checks to make sure your bike is roadworthy, mounting and dismounting, starting and stopping, emergency braking, balance and steering, using gears and signalling.
Level 2
This course is perfect if you've just completed the Level 1 course, or if you're more experienced and want to boost your road riding skills. We'll develop our road awareness, build confidence to cycle on the road, and cover road positioning, junctions, side roads, parked cars, cycle lanes, and understanding the use of road signs and the Highway Code.
Level 3
These sessions are delivered on demand and are tailored to suit you. They're usually one-to-one sessions which can be delivered on a particular route that you may want to cycle. You might need guidance with a particular junction on your route to work, or want to develop your understanding and skills for riding in traffic. We'll cover a variety of advanced cycling skills which (depending on your route), could include filtering, multi-lane roads, roundabouts and bus lanes.
To take part in any of these courses, you'll need:
- A bike in good working order (with the tyres pumped up)
- A helmet – you can’t take part without one
- Suitable clothing for cycling/weather.
