Off-Road - Ride Well

Sky Ride Local in Middlesbrough

Get out and explore the countryside with the brand new rural off-road routes from Sky Ride Local.  Off-road Ride Well is mostly traffic free rural bike riding for the family and novice cyclist.  There is barely a metre of tarmac in sight on these rides so come and enjoy the scrunch of gravel and the squelch of mud under your tyres with us!

Come join us on this lovely 13 mile off-road ride along the old railway lines that once transported freight from Sunderland to Ports along the River Tees.  Once we arrive at our picturesque midway point at Hurworth Burn Reservoir we will stop for a break and the chance to take in the amazing scenery.  From here we head back to Wynyard Park via a nice forest track within Brierley Woods.  If getting out and stretching your legs with family and friends sounds good to you then this ride is not to be missed!

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Chris Kirby Hi,
As a kid I was always on a bike of some form. Growing up in Holland where cycling is very popular was great, as this gave me a love of the outdoors and especially cycling. I returned to the UK and found the standards very poor in relation to Holland so my cycling days became less and less. In the summer of 2010 I did the Middlesbrough Sky Ride and the bug was back. So much that 2 months later I did the 140 mile Coast to Coast bike ride in 2 days for a local Charity
I am proud to become part of the Sky Ride programme and I hope to see a lot more people out enjoying the freedom cycling gives you.
  • Chris Orr Hello,

I'm one of the latest additions to the Sky ride leader group for the area so have a lot of catching up to do!
That said, I am not new to cycling and have been interested in cycling all my life. I work as Cycling Officer for Middlesbrough Council, so my love of bikes has spilled over into my day job. Love mountain biking, but also commute to work via bike, so innevitably end up riding nearly every day in some way or shape.
Hope to see you all on a ride at some time,

    Thanks
    Chris
