Two Parks Delight

Sky Ride Local in Leicester

Not cycled for a while and looking for an easy way to get back in the saddle? Fancy a fun way to get your friends or kids riding? Our Easygoing rides are great for building confidence for all abilities and ages along relaxed, mostly traffic-free routes. They’re up to six miles long, with a gentle pace of around six miles an hour.

This traffic-free family-friendly five mile ride shows off the delights of two of Leicester's many fine parks. Discover the delights of Braunstone Park, with its two lakes, children's playgrounds, walled garden and Grade II listed Georgian mansion house. If you're lucky, you might see Braunstone Flyers Model Aircraft Club's miniature aerobatic displays. The route then leads you into the adjacent Western Park, once part of the ancient Leicester Forest, a former hunting ground for the Earls of Leicester. This beautiful park also features the 'Eco House' - an environmentally-sustainable showhome featuring the latest green technology. What better way to visit it than by bike?

Additional Information

Helmets must be worn by all under 18's regardless of ride level.
All ages are welcome. Those under the age of 5 must be in a BSA approved child seat, trailer or tag-a-long.
All rides leave at the time stated, you must arrive early Ride Leaders will not wait.

• Rick Wells-Cole Mountain Bike Rider, accredited level 3 off-road Mountain Bike Instructor. Dirt jumper, pump track and trails designer/rider and trail builder at Western Park. Downhill rider in the Alps, trail centre rider in England, Wales and Scotland. Qualified 360 mini excavator driver. Instructor for the Western Park Freeride Club (www.westernparkfreeriders.co.uk). • Mike Ball Have been cycling for many years both as an all weathers commuter and a member of the Leicester Spokes cycling (http://www.leicesterspokes.org.uk) group. I particularly enjoy cycle touring in Scotland and Europe, and longer rides such as our annual overnight ride from London to Leicester. My ambitions are to cycle across the USA and China, perhaps all the way around the world? I try to use my bike for most trips and want to encourage people to look on bike travel as everyday transport, not just something for the weekend. I look forward to meeting you on a ride.

  My favourite route is along the riverside out to Watermead Park and beyond - I could never get bored of this ride.
  
  That said if I could ride anywhere in the world it would be to ride across the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco on a beach cruiser bike.
  
  For now, I'll stick to the fab network of cycle routes that we have here in Leicestershire...
