Trans Pennine Trail - A Route to Lymm

Sunday 22nd September at 10.00am This is what time the ride will set off. It’s best to get to the starting point at least 15 minutes beforehand to avoid missing the start.

Starting Point & Postcode
Lower Car Park - Trafford Water Sports Centre Sale Water Park, Rifle Road M33 2LX
Overall Duration On a long ride, it’s sometimes good to have a little break in the middle, or maybe a catch up at the beginning or end to keep it sociable. This means that the overall ride duration may be longer than the actual cycling time.
3 hours 10 mins  (2 hours 30 mins cycling)
Bike Type You probably don’t want to drag your road bike across bumpy trails. Maybe you want to make the most of the suspension on your mountain bike. This helps you match your ride to your bike.
Hybrid (off road tyres)

Sky Ride Local in Manchester

You don’t have to be the next Bradley Wiggins, but you’ll need to know your way around a bike and be fairly fit to take part in our Challenging rides. If you’re comfortable riding with other people and fancy a fresh challenge, these rides are perfect for you. They start at around twenty miles long, and are paced at between 11 and 12 miles an hour.

An attractive route that follows the epic Trans Pennine Trail along the Mersey Valley, through Dainewell Woods, and across the eastern end of the Cheshire Plain to the charming village of Lymm. We return on road through quiet rural lanes, skirting Dunham Park, before a short urban stretch through Sale. It concludes along the recently opened Connect 2 route, the Bridgewater Way.  Surfaces vary from tarmac, through compacted shale to sand, so bikes with wide tyres are a sensible choice.

Please note it is essential that anybody arriving by car, parks at the lower car park only, as the water sports centre will not let us use any other car park. Please respect their wishes so we can continue to use this fantastic start point for rides.

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • David Gara David Gara Always loved cycling. Got back into it a few years ago after hiring a mountain bike on holiday. Now all the family is hooked - my eldest is also a Skyride leader!

  • Gill Kent Hi, this is my third year of Sky Rides and I'm enjoying it lots. I've been riding for many years, initially mountain biking but in recent years I've got involved with road riding and have participated in several cyclosportives, including the 117 mile London-Canterbury Etape 2007, which I was very pleased to finish! I think cycling is the perfect family activity and have had some wonderful biking adventures with my three children not only in Britain but also Europe and Canada. I currently work with a cycle charity to establish cycle trails in the Peak District where I live. I recently completed an off-road coast to coast ride across Scotland, it was the most fantastic challenge and a personal achievement. I look forward to meeting you on the Sky Rides and maybe discussing your future adventures!
