Melody of Mud

Sunday 13th October at 2.00pm This is what time the ride will set off. It’s best to get to the starting point at least 15 minutes beforehand to avoid missing the start.

Starting Point & Postcode
Car Park at entrance to HMP Forest Bank Prison Livia, Forest Bank off Agecroft Road, Pendlbury M27 8FB
Overall Duration On a long ride, it’s sometimes good to have a little break in the middle, or maybe a catch up at the beginning or end to keep it sociable. This means that the overall ride duration may be longer than the actual cycling time.
2 hours 30 mins  (1 hours 50 mins cycling)
Bike Type You probably don’t want to drag your road bike across bumpy trails. Maybe you want to make the most of the suspension on your mountain bike. This helps you match your ride to your bike.
Hybrid (off road tyres)

Sky Ride Local in Manchester

If you’re fairly confident on your bike on dirt and gravel surfaces and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Off-Road Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, there is barely a metre of tarmac in sight on these rides so come and enjoy the scrunch of gravel and the squelch of mud under your tyres with us! Rides are between 6 and 15 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.

'Melody of Mud' is a mainly flat route starting out in the outskirts of Manchester, an area chosen for its short climbs and wooded paths. This 12 mile route passes along the canal system before returning through some interesting terrain. Cobbles and muddy tracks are the main attraction and the recipe for a perfect off-road ride!

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • ian Milburn ian Milburn I am a keen and experienced cyclist and thoroughly enjoy being a sky ride leader, I would recommend it to everybody!! I enjoy travelling the world and meeting new people from differing cultures and backgrounds.
  • David Taylor
  • Paul Diggle Hi, my name is Paul and I have been cycling for the past couple of years since giving up playing football. My interest in the sky rides began when I went on the Manchester Sky Ride and has grown since. Became a leader to help more people get on their bikes and have fun out and about and enjoy getting fit.
Completed the Manchester to Blackpool ride in July 2012 and July 2013. Looking for more challenges starting with the Coast to Coast in May 2014 and then who knows what in the future.
Now in the 2nd year as a ride leader and looking forward to seeing more people on their bikes
  • Cliff Seggie Cliff Seggie Hi

I have participated in lots of Sky Rides and decided becoming a Sky Ride leader would mean I could continue to do this whilst helping others to enjoy Sky Ride at the same time.

I started riding on a mountain bike and progressing to a road hybrid eventually buying a proper road bike last year. Sky Rides have been key in helping me to gain the confidence I needed to break into the Lycra road scene. I have done lots of charity rides, Sportives', Tour of Britain Tour Ride last Year and recently the Prudential London 100. I have now trained as a Sky Ride leader/Route Planner and look forward to assisting others who want to develop their cycling.
