Sky Ride Local in Birmingham

If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.

Alexander Stadium, one of Birmingham's premier sporting venues provides the backdrop for this 14 mile introduction to urban cycling. The ride will be on quieter roads through Handsworth and West Bromwich, leading onto the National Cycling Network Route Five through to the impressive Sandwell Valley. Even though this ride is only a few miles out of the city centre you will get a real feel of the countryside - a real breath of fresh air!

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Colin Reed I used to ride my bike a lot as a young boy and really enjoyed it. Much later I taught my own children how to ride. And occasionally I used to cycle commute in London. In 2011 I decided to get fit and began riding my bike 5 miles to work. The fresh air every morning was fantastic. Yes it was a little hard at first, but after a few weeks it became easy. After a few months I went out one day and cycled more than 10 miles! That gave me enough courage to try some easy bike rides with a cycling club and I rode further than I ever imagined! I loved cycling through the quiet countryside soaking up the beautiful scenery. So I finally caught the cycling bug!! Since then I've done many club rides, a few sportives, and two charity bike rides including 450 miles from Paris to Birmingham. In the last 2 years I've come a long way - it seems unbelievable - but if I can do it, anyone can!! I look forward to seeing you on a ride soon!
  • Jennifer Coombs
  • Carl Miller Carl Miller Hi there, I started cycling in march 2011 and after taking part in a few Sky Rides found myself hooked. I now cycle to work daily and try to get at least a couple of distance rides in each week. I am looking forward to participating in the Sky Ride program again this year and am looking forward to meeting new riders.
I am a keen scuba diver and enjoy most outdoor activities
