Sky Ride Local in Sheffield

Not cycled for a while and looking for an easy way to get back in the saddle? Fancy a fun way to get your friends or kids riding? Our Easygoing rides are great for building confidence for all abilities and ages along relaxed, mostly traffic-free routes. They’re up to six miles long, with a gentle pace of around six miles an hour.
A delightful ride for all the family taking in some local history and many wonderful watery views beyond Mosborough, Beighton and Sothall on the south eastern boundary of the city. This ride explores a disused railway and the reclaimed open cast mining site which is now Rother Valley Country Park.  The ride begins in the large car park at the Halfway terminal of the Stagecoach Supertram Blue Route and, with the exception of 100m on a suburban cul-de-sac, is entirely traffic-free on purpose made cycle trails.  The route is essentially flat with a few short ascents over bridges, which can be easily walked if necessary, and a number of 'squeeze gates' for bikes and pedestrians along the way.

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Ruth Sutherland Ruth Sutherland Welcome to Sky Ride - I am looking forward to meeting and riding with lots of new people this summer. If you are thinking of signing up for your first Sky Ride and wondering what it will be like, I urge you to come along. Feeling safe and relaxed as well as having fun is included in the guarantee!

I help in my local bike club as a British Cycling
coach, working with adults and children to develop their cycling skills.

I also spend lots of time riding a bike for fun. Some days I ride a road bike and other days I ride a mountain bike. I have been lucky enough to travel the world riding roads and trails from as far north as Canada to as far south as New Zealand. I have discovered that some of the best cycling in the world is here on our doorsteps in the UK.

I am passionate about encouraging others to share my enjoyment of cycling and if you sign up to ride with me this summer I will very much look forward to meeting you.
  • Jim Sutherland Jim Sutherland I love riding all sorts of bikes but I particularly enjoy introducing others to this great sport and encouraging those who already ride to try new challenges. Riding is good exercise but its also great fun and a good way of seeing new places and meeting new people so I hope to see you on a ride soon!
  • Stephen Cole Stephen Cole Hi, Stephen here.

I have always just loved being on a bike - around town, down country lanes - nothing beats it for freedom, independence and mild exercise.

Now in semi-retirement from a life as a primary school teacher, I hope to spread my enthusiasm through encouraging more people to take to their bikes.
