Sky Ride Local in Bristol

A steady ride of just over 12 miles starting at Nailsea & Backwell Railway station , continuing through Nailsea and out to the west across the flat countryside.  The route then takes us south, passing the local landmark - The Blue Flame - and heading towards Backwell.  We'll climb up to St. Andrew's Parish Church, which is a good stopping point with great views.  What goes up must come down and we can enjoy the benefits of the down hill section taking us back towards Bristol, turning off at Flax Bourton.  We'll join the Festival Way, part of the National Cycle Network and cycle back towards Nailsea along country lanes and quiet roads. If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • David Allen David Allen
  • Jacqui Wilcox Jacqui Wilcox Hello! I am looking forward to meeting you on one of the Sky Rides!
I cycle everyday, both commuting to work and for leisure.
Cycling helps me pursue my love of the outdoors and I am still invigorated by a good bike ride - you can see so much more by bike!
  • Samantha Fawcett Samantha Fawcett Hi, I'm Sam. I rediscovered cycling in the summer of 2013, and am now a little bit hooked (thats a little bit of an understatement)! I really enjoy cycling, and find that it is very sociable, which for me makes it enjoyable. I joined the Sky Ride team with the aim of building my own confidence, and being able to help others get on their bikes and hopefully develop a love of cycling too. Looking forward to seeing you out on the bikes soon! Happy Cycling!

Rider Comments on the Route

  1. Julia Shahin Sunday 29th June
Excellent ride leaders, really nice route except a little bit too much on the main road, but probably not avoidable and with the care and attention of the ride leaders it felt quite safe. We had so much fun that we forgot to take pictures! My first Sky Ride will definitely do more.
