Sky Ride Local in Bristol

This largely flat, 30 mile ride uses roads and country lanes to visit some of the most charming villages North of Bristol, including Iron Acton, Tytherington, Olveston and Easter Compton. This ride is the ideal route for your first "Challenging" level ride. Pause for a moment after the final uphill climb to Almondsbury to relax and take in your reward - a stunning vista - the Severn Estuary with both bridges and Wales in the background. You don’t have to be the next Bradley Wiggins, but you’ll need to know your way around a bike and be fairly fit to take part in our Challenging rides. If you’re comfortable riding with other people and fancy a fresh challenge, these rides are perfect for you. They start at around twenty miles long, and are paced at between 11 and 12 miles an hour.

Meet the Ride Leaders

  • Mike James Mike James Hi,

My name is Mike James and I will be one of your ride leaders on this ride.

I spend my days in front of a computer and got back in to cycling in 2012 to get some exercise & lose some weight. I go out about 3 or 4 times a week and enjoy a social ride.

This is my first year as a Skyride leader and look forward to cycling with you.

If you have any questions just ask.
I hope you enjoy your ride
  • James Pope James Pope I am a keen cyclist who enjoys both my daily commute to work and riding trails on my mountain bike when time allows. I also have a road bike and like to do some longer distance rides during the summer months. I regularly take my young children out on their bikes and am use to giving lots of encouragement and reassurance. I really do love cycling and the health benefit it provides and would love to help people feel the joy getting out on a bike can give.

Rider Comments on the Route

  1. Steve Wright Monday 7th July
Excellent route and our ride leaders Mike & Dave were very good despite a few wrong turns but it added to the enjoyment and everyone took them in good humour! I think I would point out that the pace did keep slowing and being held back by the ride leader, as we were on a challenging ride I expected the pace to be slightly faster and more 'challenging'! It was however a lovely ride out and great to meet everyone, all participants were SkyRide virgins which was nice as we were all on the same page.
  2. Jessica Tulit Sunday 6th July
Great first ride with the group. Slow to start but then we all upped the pace!
  3. Vikas Kalia Sunday 6th July
I would have give full marks provided there were minimum breaks along the journey to crossover from country lanes through main road.
  4. Alyson Brittol Sunday 6th July
Thank you to Mike, Dave and John for organising a great ride this morning and for looking after us!
