Sky Ride Local in Stockton-on-Tees

If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.

From Stockton to Hartlepool in a few short hops! This ride takes in National Cycle Network routes through Stockton and Billingham to visit the picturesque village of Greatham in West Hartlepool. Changing from rural to urban areas is one of this ride's main attractions - you'll be surprised how close you are to the country when you're right in the middle of the town. Starting from the iconic White Water Centre Olympic training venue at the Tees Barrage, you'll follow the cycle network through Stockton to visit Billingham Town Centre for short stop, then it's on through the village of Cowpen Bewley and north to Greatham. After a stop here, you'll complete the return journey in reverse, with another stopover in Billingham on the way back.

  • Neal Harper Neal Harper Hello!

I've been a keen cyclist since a very young age but various commitments have always got in the way over the years. I decided a couple of years ago to start taking it seriously again by starting to cycle to work. After attending the Sky Ride Middlesbrough main event in 2010, I signed up for some local rides and had a really great time doing these, making some new friends in the process.

A few people who came out regularly on the Sky Rides then went on to form a club and Tees Valley Riders was born. I'm proud to be the club's chairman.

I cycle to work quite often now and also get out on evenings & weekends for both club rides and riding on my own just for fun.

I'm looking forward to meeting you on the rides I'll be covering and helping you to enjoy this amazing hobby we love so much!
