Breeze Bike Rides in Bradford

Meeting at the Hirst Lock Car Park avoids the congested roads of Saltaire though we do pass through this World Heritage site. Mostly towpath or private access road, there is a short stretch of quiet road at Dockfield. We travel along National Cycle Network 66, through Rodley and onto the volunteer operated Nature Reserve. Here we can get a cake and a cuppa, but if you think you will need something more substantial, take a sandwich to eat in the visitor centre. The reserve has several wetland areas populated by a wide variety of birds which can be viewed from any of several hides, should the day prove suitable. Binoculars? Yes if you want.

On the route we pass through areas of Shipley, Thackley, Esholt, Apperley Bridge, Calverley and Rodley not normally seen from a car, and there are other tea-places where we can stop for refreshments or shorten the ride if necessary.

The total mileage is 17, but as it is an 'out and home' ride it can be shortened.

I would advise that you bring a drink and a snack for top ups along the way, also some money for refreshments when we stop.

Newcomers to Breeze rides are very welcome.  Dress appropriately for the weather: several thin layers are best and a rain jacket could come in handy. Wearing a helmet is advisable, though not essential.

The towpath can get very muddy after rain, so please bear this in mind when choosing what to wear for the ride ;-)

I'll look forward to seeing you there!

Meet the Champions

  • Judy Robinson I may not be the youngest kid on the block, but riding my bike again after so many years has certainly made me feel it. I don't go fast or far, but my aim is to get more women out cycling, share the fun that I'm having and get fitter in the process.
