Tour of Britain Sky Ride Local Terms & Conditions
Terms and conditions – Sky Ride Local
Conditions of registration and participation in the above events:
Most of these conditions are designed for your safety and the safety of other riders. Please read them carefully to avoid problems later.
General
1. Cycling can be strenuous and riders must be in good health. Riders who have any doubt about their health or have a medical condition that could be affected by exercise, particularly a heart condition, should consult their doctor before participating.
2. All riders aged 15 and under must be registered and accompanied by a parent or guardian. If a child under 15 attends with another adult that is not their parent/guardian the person making the registration must have the prior written consent of their legal parent/guardian.
No adult may accompany more than four children on any ride and the registration system reflects this. This adult is fully responsible for these children for the duration of the ride.
For the avoidance of doubt, although participants aged 16 and 17 are able to register themselves they cannot register under 16’s as their minor.
3. The minimum age for a "Ride Easygoing" is 5 years old (on the day of the chosen ride).
Adults wishing to bring along children under 5 years (on the day of the chosen ride to Ride Easygoing) may do so providing they are secured in a BS standard child seat or trailer.
The minimum age for a "Ride Steady ride" is dependent on the distance of the ride.
For all “Ride Steady rides” up to 12 miles the minimum age is 5 years old (on the day of the chosen ride). Adults wishing to bring along children under 5 years (on the day of the chosen ride to a Ride Steady of up to 12 miles) may do so providing they are secured in a BS standard child seat or trailer.
For all “Ride Steady rides” of between 13 and 20 miles the minimum age is 8 years old and those aged between 8 – 15 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
For a “Ride Challenging ride” the minimum age is 11 and those aged 11-15 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
4. The ride is designed entirely for bicycles (i.e. non–powered cycles). The organisers’ decision shall be final as to whether a bicycle is of an appropriate type or condition to participate in the ride.
5. To comply with British Cycling’s rules and regulations, helmets are compulsory for U18s and recommended but not compulsory for adults.
6. While the organisers, managers and promoters of the ride will do all in their reasonable control to make the ride as safe as possible, all riders take part at their own risk.
7. All riders must ensure that their bicycles are in a roadworthy condition, must observe the rules of the Highway Code and follow the instructions of any officials, marshals and the Police.
8. None of the organisers, managers or any sponsors or promoters of the ride accept liability for any loss or damaged caused where:
(a) there is breach of a contractual obligation or legal duty of care owed to you;
(b) such loss or damage is not reasonably foreseeable at the time of breach
(c) an injury is sustained or property damaged in the course of the ride or as a result of taking part in the ride; or
(d) any changes are made to the route or conduct of the ride for safety or operational reasons or as otherwise required for the safe and proper carrying out of the event;
except for death or personal injury caused by their negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other matter for which it would be illegal or unlawful for them to exclude or attempt to exclude their liability.
9. The organisers, managers or any sponsors or promoters of the ride may take photographs or videos of the ride and riders for publicity purposes. By registering to participate in the ride either on your own behalf or upon behalf of any other rider including those under the age of 16 years, you agree that photographic images of you, containing you, or of those under the age of 16 years upon whose behalf you have registered, may be used by the organisers, managers or any sponsors or promoters of the ride for publicity purposes.
10. The organisers may cancel any rides at their discretion. They will endeavour to give as much notice as possible of any cancellations. The organisers accept no liability for any costs incurred as a result of the cancellation.
11. Participants must follow the instruction provided by Ride Leaders throughout the duration of the ride. If participants do not follow this instruction the Ride Leader has the right to refuse entry or to abort the ride at any stage during the event.
