RIDE TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Terms and conditions – Social Cycling Groups

Conditions of registration and participation in the rides:

These conditions are designed for your safety and the safety of other riders. Please read them carefully to avoid problems later.

Definition of terms used:

  • Ride Organiser- An individual with permission to create a Social Cycling Group ride and promote it on www.goskyride.com.
  • Social Cycling Group- A group of like minded individuals who meet regularly to go on a bike ride together.
  • British Cycling Membership- Gold, Silver and Ride membership categories only (for insurance purposes).

The Rides

1. Social Cycling Group Rides are not recognized as an official British Cycling ‘led’ ride and therefore the group organizer is not recognized as an official ride leader.

Registration

2. All participants over the age of 16 will be able to register for a maximum of two Social Cycling Group Rides without being a member of British Cycling. If a participant cancels a registration prior to the ride it would become void and not included as one of these two rides. The participant would have to become a member of British Cycling prior to registering for a third ride.

3. All riders aged 15 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. If a child under 15 attends with another adult that is not their parent/guardian the person making the registration must have the prior consent of their legal parent/guardian. Although recommended, it is not necessary for a rider under the age of 15 to be a British Cycling member.

Cancellation

4. The organizers, managers and promoters may cancel any rides at their discretion. They will endeavour to give as much notice as possible of any cancellations. The organisers accept no liability for any costs incurred as a result of the cancellation

Safety

5. While the organisers, managers and promoters of the ride will do all in their reasonable control to make the ride as safe as possible, all riders take part at their own risk.

6. It is recommended that all participants are members of British Cycling which will provide you with third party liability insurance and protection.

7. All under 18’s have to wear a helmet in order to take part in rides, including those in child seats and trailers.  Parents are not able to sign a waiver. Adult participants on rides should be encouraged to wear a helmet but don’t have to. Ride Organisers reserve the right to enforce the wearing of a helmet on their rides. (also see T&C 5)

8. None of the organisers, managers or any sponsors or promoters of the ride accept liability for any loss or damage caused where:

(a) there is breach of a contractual obligation or legal duty of care owed to you;

(b) such loss or damage is not reasonably foreseeable at the time of breach

(c) an injury is sustained or property damaged in the course of the ride or as a result of taking part in the ride; or

(d) any changes are made to the route or conduct of the ride for safety or operational reasons or as otherwise required for the safe and proper carrying out of the event;

except for death or personal injury caused by their negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other matter for which it would be illegal or unlawful for them to exclude or attempt to exclude their liability.

General

9. Cycling can be strenuous and riders must be in good health. Riders who have any doubt about their health or have a medical condition that could be affected by exercise, particularly a heart condition, should consult their doctor before participating.

10. The ride is designed entirely for bicycles (i.e. non–powered cycles). The organisers’ decision shall be final as to whether a bicycle is of an appropriate type or condition to participate in the ride.

11. All riders must ensure that their bicycles are in a roadworthy condition, and must observe the rules of the Highway Code.

12. The organisers, managers or any sponsors or promoters of the ride may take photographs of the ride and riders for publicity purposes. By registering to participate in the ride either on your own behalf or upon behalf of any other rider including those under the age of 16 years, you agree that photographic images of you, containing you, or of those under the age of 16 years upon whose behalf you have registered, may be used by the organisers, managers or any sponsors or promoters of the ride for publicity purposes.
