Cycling in Stockton-on-Tees

Stockton-on-Tees is a great place to cycle, and now there are even more opportunities to get out and about on your bike in the area.

This year, the family fun, mass participation, traffic-free 'RideStockton' is part of the weekend-long Stockton Cycling Festival 2014, 11-13 July and promises to be a great day out for all the familyso it's time to dust off your bike and get involved.

Click on the 'Big Bike Events' tab to register free for RideStockton! All registrants will be entered into a draw to win a money-can't-buy signed TeamGB cycling Jersey - simply print out and bring along your registration confirmation email to the British Cycling activation area on the day.

A lucky winner will be drawn from all RideStockton registrants at the end of the day and one lucky winner will be contacted by British Cycling to receive this fabulous prize!

Stockton Active Travel Hub

The Hub in central Stockton is the first active travel centre in the country, promoting cycling and walking as alternative forms of transport for everyday journeys. The Hub’s free indoor cycle parking facility now has well over 1000 members and continues to grow rapidly.

The Hub is a Sustrans project funded by the big lottery and in partnership with Stockton Borough Council and NHS Stockton on Tees.

Here are some of what The Hub offers:

  • Free half-day maintenance courses

Whatever kind of cycling you enjoy, there are lots of great places to do it in Stockton.

Stockton has a comprehensive network of cycle routes comprised of on-road cycle lanes, traffic-free routes, and suggested quiet streets. You can download maps showing all the cycle routes and suitable crossing facilities.

The Eight Bridges Way is a traffic-free walking and cycling route following the banks of the River Tees between Stockton and Middlesbrough and passing eight of the bridges over this section of the tees including the iconic Infinity Bridge in Stockton and the Transporter Bridge in Middlesbrough. The route passes the Tees Barrage white water course and a number of important nature reserves along the banks of the river. Find out more and download a map of the route.
